Organizer Jackpot!

I went to Target today and raided the dollar bins for organizers for Lu's room.

I nabbed four white strappy bins, a blue wooden tray, and a blue cardboard bin for $2.50 each and three little buckets for $1.00 each. There are two more Targets within driving distance of my mom's (where I'm at this week) and one in Augusta near my house and I have a plan to raid all of them for the $2.50 white strappy bins.

My Target haul. I'm pretty happy.

I had a new thought about organizing. I was reading Chez Larsson, the blog by organizing guru Benita Larsson and she buys most of her bins in white and natural colors so she can use them in whatever space she needs. I thought that was a brilliant idea because "schtuff" is always shifting and changing so if you can use the containers in any room, so much the better. Although it's hard to argue with $1.00 and $2.50. At that rate who cares if it's room-specific.

T, my sister, made an IKEA run the other day so I placed an order for two sizes of Kassett boxes in white and three of each of the three sizes of Burken jars. The boxes are $5.99 and $9.99 for sets of two and the jars range from $2.99 to $5.99.

I have Lucie's Silly Bands & marbles in the small size and her shells are in the large size.
The jars make them look like collections on display as opposed to a general mess.
I can use these anywhere, I have one earmarked for Q-tips and one for cotton balls. You could even spray paint the lids if you wanted them to match a room.

KASSETT boxes: they are cheap and come in lots of sizes.
The document sized versions of the Kassett boxes are going to be for Lu's mementos. I'm using a bunch of the larger ones on the top shelf of my closet to corral handbags, out-of-season clothes and stuff. They'll look neater than the giant pile 'o schtuff that's currently there. I wouldn't use these for items that you need daily though, they're more for things you want to keep close but only use once in a while. They are cardboard after all. Benita waxes rhapsodic about the Kassett boxes in this post. If you haven't read the organizing posts of her blog, you should, she's really good at not only organizing but also re-purposing containers that she has on hand and finding inexpensive ways to do it. I might like her ideas the best of anyone's.

I'm at my mom's for the week so I'm going to have to wait to use all my new goodies. I might actually be having fun with this... weird.

See you tomorrow!

  6. You are turning in to the organizing queen I think :-) Good deal with the target stuff, especially the white strappy bins (white goes anywhere, kind of).

Maybe maybe I will go to Ikea this weekend. I need a lamp and maybe I will buy some more kassett boxes actually. I look at Burken jars every time I'm at Ikea but I still haven't bought any. By the way "Burken" is Swedish and means "the jar" :-)

Have fun organizing with your new things when you come home, and have fun with your mother this week!

  7. You're making me want to buy hundreds of matching bins. This is not a good thing.

  9. Maria - I always wondered what the IKEA names meant. It's funny that it's "the jar" that doesn't sound nearly as cool ;-p
