From top left: the icky sub-floor in our hall, the '70's linoleum, the cheap laminate, & the sticky vinyl tiles. |
Pretty huh? Yeaaaaaaah....
I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what to do with my floors! I don't want to do more cheap solutions that are going to poop out in less than a year, but I also don't want to live with THOSE until I can finally afford the ones I want.
I have to admit that I have been going around and around about painted floors for a while. I love them! At first, Roger nixed them out of hand, but now he's coming around. I guess he's seen some that he likes and sees that there are possibilities. Like these, for example;

I love the green stenciled. |
All of these images are from Sunny's Goodtime Paints. I just ordered her book where she talks about all of her painting techniques. I'm hoping that she will show me how to get this beautiful look!
Here's our lauan that we're going to put down on the kitchen floor. Now, it's going to be painted in some crazy, lovely way... It's going to be soooo cool!
Oh, and here's the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint that I'm using for my dresser, but that's another post!
Pretty, huh?
See you tomorrow,
H
Love this idea. I know that because I'm an awful corduroy-wearing, orange-Formica-loving, brown-shag-carpet kinda guy it won't be surprising that...
ReplyDeleteI really love the orange 70s linoleum. Really. Anyway...
That bathroom is fab-u-lous. All of these are. What sort of paint? I imagine it would hafta be some kinda oil base. Can't wait to hear/read what's next! :) Eric K.
I love the painted flooring idea! And my parents had that exact 70s linoleum in their kitchen until 1998, ha ha.
ReplyDeleteI painted the linoleum in my son's room to look like cartoon stonework(and added a carpet remnant that covers a lot of it) and also painted the linoleum on my front porch to look like terra cotta tile(this was in 2003 but it only looks bad in high-traffic areas so it held up pretty well)and I have to say, it is a cheap, nice-looking fix. Go for it!
ReplyDeleteNice floors - that's something I dream of too. I live in a rental and I have to accept the oak laminat floors in my apartment. A bit unlucky that I don't have wooden floors, because a lot of the apartments around here have. And there might be wooden floors under layers of "renovation", but I can't afford to take the risk to take all the layers away. I'm not sure there is a wooden floor, and if so it might not be in good condition.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your floors! I'm sure you will find a good, budget friendly way somehow!
